The Detroit Tigers have 3 months to go until pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Lakeland Florida, and still have not filled holes at 3B, 2B, SP and OF. They have signed free agent 38 year old RP Octavio Dotel to $3.5M contract, and have 2 too many relievers in their bullpen, and now in a report by Mlive reporter James Schmehl, they are looking at yet ANOTHER RP that is old and expensive in 35 year old Kerry Wood! What in the heck for Mr. DUMB-browski!?
The Tigers already have a $14M payroll and a bullpen that pays Jose Valverde $9m, Joaquin Benoit $5.5M, Octavio Dotel $3.5M along with Schlereth, Coke, Below, Villareal and Al Alburquerque (injured till break). What in the heck are you thinking going after yet another RP, not to mention one that is 35 years old and asking for $4M a year!? It makes absolutely no sense at all when you take into account we still don’t have a lead off hitter or starting 3B or 2B to take the field on opening day. Yes that means that I don’t count Ramon Santiago and Brandon Inge as “starters” in the major leagues.
I really wish Dave DUMB-browski would just do us all a favor and quit trying to act like a GM, when he is clearly spending most of his time playing with tonka toys and coloring with crayola crayons! It’s all good Dave. Cubs are nearing a one year deal with Wood. So the Tigers aren’t going to sign him. I fought you tooth and nail about the Dotel signing, but bringing in Wood doesn’t really make sense. Like I said, I ready this morning the Cubs are close to signing him.
