The Detroit Tigers are just ending week 3 of the young MLB season with a 7-9 record in the A.L Central and 2 straight losses to the Oakland Athletics. Every year around this time you will read about surprise players such as Brennan Boesch, Alex Avila and Casper Wells great play, in an effort to boost up the team to fans. This is a great move by people who are trying to avoid the whole truth about the Tigers situation and not present you with some other key facts that we should all try not and forget about our ball club. Since we at Detroit Sports 360 are all about giving you all the information, I will give you the good and the bad.
Brennan Boesch: .280 AVG. 1 HR 9 RBI- Once again Boesch is off to a great start and hitting well but Tigers fans can’t be too excited after his last 2nd half slump last year. Stay tuned on the Boesch update.
Alex Avila: .282 AVG. 3 HR 9 RBI- I must admit my early season prediction on Avila was wrong. He is off to a great start and with V-Mart hitting only .237 so far it’s a goof thing Avilia is picking up the slack. Question is will it keep up? I sure hope so.
Miguel Cabrera: .304 avg. 5 HR 11 RBI- No Surprise here as last year’s MVP candidate is tearing up the league again. Miggy is #1 in the A.L in HR’s and is once again Detroit’s best bat. If he can get some protection out of V-Mart he will once again be on a bad team with MVP like numbers. I would hate to see him robbed again.
Jose Valverde: 2-0 0.00 ERA 3 Saves 5.2 INN 4 K’s 1 BB- Valverde is on fire this year with no earned runs in 6 games. He is in the last year of contract and pitching like her wants the team to pick up his option next year.
Phil Coke: 1-2 2.25 ERA 9 K’s- Not a good record at 1-2 but not a good team behind him either. Having a 2.25 ERA in 4 starts is good to see but a long way to go for new starter Phil Coke. I hope this works out but if truth be told…he isn’t in a good spot if the Tigers offensive woes continue.
Magglio Ordonez: .214 AVG. 0 HR 0 RBI 8 Games- Well I wish I could say this was a surprise.. but it’s not. Only 8 games played with 0 HR’s and 0 RBI’s is bad, but Mags is 37 years old and often injured. I said this before he was resigned, during his rumors of re signing, after Dave Dummy re signed him and once again now. You don’t spend $10M on this guy! Why is this huge mistake going unnoticed?
Austin Jackson: .175 AVG. 1 HR 3 RBI 2 SB 19 K’s- This is a surprise since most Tigers fans (including myself) thought we had a superstar in the making in Jackson last year. Not only doe she have 19 Strike outs in only 16 games but a .175 AVG. is downright awful. Hopefully he can turn that around and get on base to display his speed but so far certainly not lead off man numbers.
Ryan Raburn: .229 AVG. 1 HR 5 RBI 19 K’s 3 E- Batting only .229 and having 19 Strikeouts in14 games is not only bad but coupled with an inability to be a good defensive outfielder (team leading 3 errors), Dave Dummy once again looks horrible for letting this happen. There is nothing that can be said about this that hasn’t already been said!
Brandon Inge: .204 AVG. 1 HR 4 RBI 10 K’s 2 E- This is honestly exactly what everyone but Dave Dummy knew was going to happen if we resigned him. I once again hate saying I told you so to Dave Dummy, but have to say it on this one.. I told you so! Ha Ha Ha! That felt good. A .204 avg. and 2 errors already is just not going to cut it. I said this right from jump street and I will say it again… please bench him, bring in anyone else and eat the $11M you foolishly gave him.
All things considered the Tigers don’t have an awful record at 7-9 in the A.L Central but things aren’t looking great for us either. I am sticking with my original pre season prediction for us at 80-82 and finish in 3rd
