Letter to Dave Dombrowski…

Dear Dave,

Pitching is the mark of a great team. If Detroit has a chance to have 4 aces  they should spend the money and sign Sanchez. Don’t let him get away-we have the inside track. After all, we do not have a lot invested in two of our aces, Sherzer and Fister. Our bullpen would have been better off with Villarreal than Velverde. We can have a good closing bull pen with the relievers we have and use the money for Sanchez.

Porcello can only pitch 5 innings; Our coaching staff just hasn’t figured that out. But Porcello should be traded along with Peralta and Boesch after he signs. With Berry, who gives us speed, we do not need another lefty (Boesch) who can’t hit lefties and Peralta doesn’t have the range we need next to Cabrera. We need a base stealing short stop who can hit lefties; Castro of the Cubs would be great. Smiley is a lefty and already having four right handed pitchers, he should be the number five. He can be used when we face a left handed lineup.

The argument about jeopardizing our future by letting young talent go is a mute point. Sanchez is a proven young talent and we are a young team. It would be better to rotate guys in one corner and get a fast SS than sign a free agent outfielder. Dirks can hit good enough to be a regular on the other corner.
